Introducing Ubiquity for Firefox, and experiment in connecting the Web with language. labs.mozilla.com/2008/08/introducing-ubiquity/

Ubiquity's goals are to:

Empower users to control the web browser with language-based instructions. (With search, users type what they want to find. With Ubiquity, they type what they want to do.)

Enable on-demand, user-generated mashups with existing open Web APIs. (In other words, allowing everyone (not just Web developers) to remix the Web so it fits their needs, no matter what page they are on, or what they are doing.)

Use Trust networks and social constructs to balance security with ease of extensibility.

Extend the browser functionality easily.

APML 1.0 Initial Draft

Es hat ne ganze Weile gedauert, aber endlich ist eine erste Vorschau von APML 1.0 verfügbar: APML 1.0 Initial Draft

Unterschiede zu APML 0.6:

Neben Concepts und Sources gibt es jetzt auch People und Locations.
Optional kann über rdf:about auf andere Semantiken/Ontologien verwiesen werden ohne APML selbst unnötig kompliziert zu machen.

Es können sich zwar noch Kleinigkeiten ändern:

Given that the community is obviously itching to start seeing APML 1.0 progress, I felt that it would be an appropriate time to release this and assist in structuring the discussion. I intend to follow
this with a few more emails that detail individual sections I believe need substantial addressing.

…aber das grobe Gerüst steht fest. Ich freue mich besonders, dass APML weiterhin so simpel wie möglich bleibt und nicht (wie oft vorgeschlagen) mit RDF-Namespaces arbeitet.

Wenn sich in den nächsten Tagen nicht mehr viel ändern wird, werde ich nochmal etwas ausführlicher über die Neuerungen schreiben und mein WordPress-Plugin auf die aktuelle Version bringen…

Der Such-Affe und sogar die Microformats-Suche funktionieren auch perfekt auf dem iPhone…

Einfach bei der klassischen Suche ein kleines i hinter die URL packen: http://search.yahoo.com/i/

…und gegebenenfalls noch ein “searchmonkeyid:com.yahoo.uf.hatom” oder ein “searchmonkeyid:com.yahoo.uf.hcard” dazu…

Der Deutschlandfunk hat ein sehr interessantes Interview mit Christian Scholz (ein sehr engagiertes Mitglied der DataPortability - Gruppe) über das Thema DataPortability online gestellt, was ich jedem der sich bisher eher wenig mit dem Thema beschäftigt hat, sehr ans Herz lege.

Der Bericht ist schön kurz und leicht verständlich (auch für Nicht-Geeks) und selbst wenn Christian (aka Mr. Topf) nicht der deutsche Sprecher der DP-Gruppe ist, hätte er definitiv das Zeug dazu.

'q3apd' (Quake 3 Arena, Pure Data) was a project developed in 2003 by Steven Pickles (pix) and Julian Oliver (delire) to expose the events in a game of Quake3 Arena, whether multiplayer or otherwise, to external programs used by artists to the ends of making music, graphical art or controlling mechanical events.

q3apd has now been used by many artists and researchers in the creation of artwork and has been toured from Europe to America and Japan in game-based performances by Oliver. It was exhibited in an installation context at the LoveBytes Festival 2006, Sheffield, U.K for one month. Documented here is that version.

In the installation the movement, position, health, viewangle and item status of 4 software agents in combat was sent to the synthesis environment Pure Data and used to make an auralisation of activity in the arena: a musical re-presentation of the flows and gestures of artifical life in combat.
